WELCOME TO THE BASE OF THE CAROLUS QUINTO
The site is under re-construction

The Carolus Quinto is the challenger which represents the city of Ghent in both the Atlantic Challenge and the Défi des Jeunes Marins. The crew consists of 20 youths, recruited from the sea-scouts of Gent,"De Wilde Eend".

In 1998 Charles Leten approached the scouts with a magnificent idea: build an 11m long boat to participate in the Défi des Jeunes Marins in Douarnenez in 2000. Shipyard "De Leie" was prepared to offer its expertise and assistance.

That there are no impossible difficulties and objections was proven by the crew by not only being there at the Défi, but also getting a more than decent result:

- 1st in the rowing regatta

- 5nd in the sailing regatta

And all this with a boat which didn't taste salt water untill the day before the regattas!

Douarnenez was considered by the crew as just general rehearsal. The real challenge will come soon:
